Explaining Rainbow Six Siege’s Tiniest Map Details

Click here to watch embedded media

Last month at the Rainbow Six Major in Raleigh, North Carolina, I had the chance to sit down with Jeremy Dowsett, a Senior Level Designer at Ubisoft Montreal and show him my photo album of bizarre and hyper-specific tidbits from hours of scouring the game’s many maps.

Enjoy the video above! For more from my time at the Rainbow Six Major, watch my solo New Gameplay Today with the game’s newest operators.

Tokyo Game Show Gallery: Sights From The Show Floor

We’re in Japan for the annual Tokyo Game Show, in case you couldn’t tell by our stories, pictures, and videos focused on Japanese games. And while those titles are definitely the stars of the show, another joy of attending TGS is seeing what heights the spectacle can reach.

During our time between appointments, we snapped some pictures so you can feel like you’re right here on the show floor with us. Some of the highlights include a giant Rabite, merchandise for sale at the Kojima Productions shop, and some impressive statues at the Atlus/Sega booth. So flip through the galleries below and please do not mock our photography skills.

Apple Arcade Launches Next Week For $5 A Month

During today’s Apple presentation, the company further pulled back the curtains on Apple Arcade, its previously announced premium mobile game subscription service. Announced in March, Apple Arcade grants users access to over 100 full, exclusive titles playable across iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, and Apple TV.

In addition to giving some details about some of the games coming to the platform, Apple also gave pricing and release information. The service is set to launch on September 19 alongside iOS 13. It will come to iPadOS and tvOS on September 30, and finally arrive on MacOS Catalina in October.

A single subscription of $4.99 per month allows you to play offline and share your subscription with up to five other family members at no additional cost. In the coming weeks, Apple promises more than 100 titles on the service, with more to come every month. The games on Apple Arcade are the full versions of the games with no ads, additional microtransactions, or in-game purchases. Some games will also support DualShock 4, Xbox wireless controllers, and MFi controllers via Bluetooth in addition to touch controls and Siri Remote.

The games list features several exclusive titles you can only play through Apple Arcade. You can see a list of some of the initial games below.

  • Ballistic Baseball, Gameloft
  • The Bradwell Conspiracy, Bossa
  • ChuChu Rocket! Universe, Sega
  • The Enchanted World, Noodlecake
  • Exit the Gungeon, Devolver
  • Overland, Finji

The Scariest Part Of P.T. Was Just Revealed Through A Hack

Remember P.T.? Some people call it the best demo ever created. Others will even go as far to say it was one of the scariest games ever made. Konami and directors Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro created P.T. as a way to lure people in to wanting a new Silent Hill game. As the demo concludes, players learn that P.T. simply meant “Playable Teaser,” and the tease was actually for a new title called Silent Hills.

As promising as this new direction looked, it’s dead in the water, and P.T. can no longer be downloaded. Lance McDonald, who is one of the lucky people to still have P.T. on his PlayStation 4 five years after it was removed, just made a startling discovering in the game. McDonald, who runs a Patreon that explores “video game hacking, modding, and exploration videos,” hacked P.T. to show players what happens when the camera faces in different directions as the scares are unfolding.

On Twitter, McDonald wrote “In P.T., it’s common to hear noises as if Lisa is right behind you, or see weird shadows moving around in front of you, but when you turn around, there’s nothing there. I hacked the game to allow the player to see behind.”

It turns out Lisa, the scary demon in the game, is always behind the player, and worse, she actually latches onto the player after they discover the flashlight. You can see the horror she brings in the video below:

She actually attaches to the player’s back as soon as you get the flashlight, here, I demonstrate how you can see some strange shadows. I then lock the camera in place and walk forward, showing how she’s always there… following you… pic.twitter.com/zarhwjNmZz

— Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) September 9, 2019

Kojima retweeted McDonald’s discovery, which makes it seem like Lisa always being there was a story decision that players eventually would have discovered. Even after altering the flow of the game, McDonald says it’s still terrifying. “The number of times Lisa has grabbed me and scared the absolute s— out of my while trying to test patches is exhausting,” he wrote. “I never get used to it.”

The sad reality of game development is some games get canceled, but few ever make it as far as P.T. did in the public eye before getting the axe. What could have been. What could have been…

Death Stranding To Feature “Very Easy Mode” Designed For Movie Fans

Death Stranding’s November 8 release date draws near, and while we still don’t have a clear idea of what to expect from the gameplay, director Hideo Kojima is saying everyone should be able to complete it. Kojima took to Twitter to reveal Death Stranding will launch with a “Very Easy Mode,” which is designed for people who may not be well versed in games.

Normally there’s only Easy Mode, but we added Very Easy Mode for movie fans since we have real actors like Norman, Mads, Lea starred in. Even Yano-san who never completed the 1st stage of PAC-MAN, was able to complete the game on Very Easy Mode 👍🌈🦀😅 https://t.co/fMZmuZltZw

— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) September 6, 2019

Kojima is likely right in his assumption that notable actors like Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux may draw in some movie fans who may not be up to speed on the latest in games. On top of that, Very Easy Mode will be a great introduction point for people who are jumping into games for the first time. We’ll likely have to wait for the game’s launch to learn how Very Easy Mode changes the gameplay and difficulty. Now will there be a Very Easy Mode for figuring out the story?
