{"id":108233,"date":"2019-03-14T20:05:49","date_gmt":"2019-03-14T12:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/?p=239537"},"modified":"2019-03-14T20:05:49","modified_gmt":"2019-03-14T12:05:49","slug":"gsma-slams-ec-over-car-tech-choice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itteacheritfreelance.hk\/test\/wordpress\/2019\/03\/14\/gsma-slams-ec-over-car-tech-choice\/","title":{"rendered":"GSMA slams EC over car tech choice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        \tIndustry body the GSMA argued the European Commission (EC) ignored innovation and choice\u00a0after the body backed the adoption of Wi-Fi technology in connected cars over cellular connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday (13 March), the EC as expected [1] adopted new rules to advance deployment of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) on Europe&#8217;s roads, as part of its long-term goal of \u201cmoving close to zero fatalities and serious injuries by 2050&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p>C-ITS includes ITS-G5 connectivity, which is compatible with the 802.11p Wi-Fi standard.<\/p>\n<p>However, the GSMA described the technology as \u201coutdated\u201d in a statement, arguing the decision risked \u201cundercutting Europe\u2019s 5G future\u201d and jeopardises the continent\u2019s digital competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>It urged EU member states and the European Parliament to reject the proposed rules in favour of \u201cmore advanced technologies, like Cellular V2X&#8221; (C-V2X).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EU\u2019s 5G Action Plan calls for all \u2018major terrestrial transport paths to have uninterrupted coverage by 2025\u2019.
