{"id":149087,"date":"2019-07-12T17:32:04","date_gmt":"2019-07-12T09:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/?p=250428"},"modified":"2019-07-12T17:32:04","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T09:32:04","slug":"satellites-tipped-to-open-new-iot-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itteacheritfreelance.hk\/test\/wordpress\/2019\/07\/12\/satellites-tipped-to-open-new-iot-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Satellites tipped to open new IoT opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        \tABI Research highlighted satellites as a key component of IoT growth, predicting some 24 million connections will be made via such networks by 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The research company pointed to maritime and aviation tracking as two important sectors for the satellite market due to gaps in ground-based infrastructure, but added significant growth is also expected in agriculture and asset tracking.<\/p>\n<p>ABI Research analyst Harriet Sumnall noted in a statement the expansion of satellite networks will \u201callow for connectivity to be more global\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerrestrial cellular networks only cover 20 per cent of the Earth\u2019s surface, while satellite networks can cover the entire surface of the globe, from pole to pole&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While the market using satellite connection is still immature, it shows great opportunities for growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The prediction comes as competition in the satellite market heats up, with companies including Amazon [1], OneWeb [2], SpaceX and even Facebook pursuing space-based goals.<\/p>\n<p>Mobile operators are also exploring satellite opportunities.
