{"id":151316,"date":"2019-07-23T18:43:56","date_gmt":"2019-07-23T10:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/?p=251245"},"modified":"2019-07-23T18:43:56","modified_gmt":"2019-07-23T10:43:56","slug":"microsoft-injects-1b-into-openai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itteacheritfreelance.hk\/test\/wordpress\/2019\/07\/23\/microsoft-injects-1b-into-openai\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft injects $1B into OpenAI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        \tMicrosoft announced a $1 billion investment in OpenAI, a specialist nonprofit organisation, as the tech giant looks to develop solutions based on the technology on its cloud Azure platform.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI, which was founded in 2015 with funding from a range of high profile investors including (Microsoft-owned) LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, employs AI researchers to make advances in the technology while also looking at the safety and social implications of the tech.<\/p>\n<p>With Microsoft, OpenAI said it would gain support in building AI solutions with widely distributed economic benefits, as well as a hardware and software platform within Microsoft Azure.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically the two companies will pursue \u201cartificial general intelligence (AGI)\u201d, which is described as a computing system able to master a subject better, or as well as, humans.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Altman (pictured left), CEO of OpenAI, said \u201cthe creation of AGI will be the most important technological development in human history, with the potential to shape the trajectory of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mission is to ensure that AGI technology benefits all of humanity, and we\u2019re working with Microsoft to build the supercomputing foundation on which we\u2019ll build AGI,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft will also become its exclusive cloud provider, with the companies planning to work together to extend Azure\u2019s capabilities in large scale AI systems.
