New York City Council this week approved a proposal to name a Bronx street after late Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee.<\/span><\/p>\n

University Avenue\u2014between Brandt Place and West 176th Street\u2014may soon be co-named “Stan Lee Way.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A bill codifying the moniker (as well as 85 other honorary street names) is currently awaiting the mayor’s signature.<\/span><\/p>\n

Legendary editor, writer, and producer Lee passed away<\/a> in November at the age of 95.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through his work and collaborations with Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, and other artists, Lee turned Marvel from a small business into one of the world’s largest comic book and multimedia ventures.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was most famous for bringing to life fictional heroes like Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, Peggy Carter, Thor, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, the X-Men, and countless others.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Stan Lee was a Bronx native who grew up in my district,” City Council member Fernando Cabrera, whose proposal aims to honor the comic book genius, told NBC 4 New York<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a teenager, Lee shared a bedroom with his brother at 1720 University Ave. and attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He later moved around Manhattan and Long Island, eventually buying a home in West Hollywood, Calif.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Mr. Lee’s amazing talent brought joy and entertainment to countless children and adults and he deserves to be permanently memorialized in his home borough, the Bronx,” Cabrera said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He would certainly be in good company: The entirety of Bartow Avenue is named after civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/span><\/p>\n

And among the hundreds of honorary street names<\/a> scattered across New York’s five boroughs, you can find famous folks like Muhammad Ali (West 33rd Street), James Baldwin (128th Street), Duke Ellington (Frawley Circle), George and Ira Gershwin (West 50th Street), Katherine Hepburn (East 49th Street), Willie Mays (St. Nicholas Place), Joey Ramone (Bowery), Norman Rockwell (103rd Street and Broadway), Jackie Robinson (MacDonough Street), and Harriet Tubman (Fulton Street; St. Nicholas Avenue).<\/span><\/p>\n
