Penney receipt\u2014originally sold for $38.45 (after taxes). That&#8217;s more than $86 in today&#8217;s rates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It was kind of funny,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/eu.rgj.com\/story\/life\/2019\/07\/29\/reno-man-finds-rare-nintendo-game-attic-could-get-10-k-auction-kid-icarus\/1854714001\"  rel=\"noopener\">Amos told<\/a> the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reno Gazette Journal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last week, admitting that he thought the cartridge was worth &#8220;a couple hundred dollars.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After contacting video game experts, Amos learned that he had &#8220;something special&#8221; lying on his kitchen counter\u2014well within reach of his two young daughters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He immediately called his wife to put the nest egg in a more secure location.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I didn&#8217;t want the kids pulling it down or coloring on it,&#8221; Amos said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the ravages of time (not to mention three decades&#8217; worth of dust), his copy remained in fairly good condition: Grading service Wata Games scored the box an eight-out-of-10 and the wrapper an A (short of the maximum A++).<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1798722\" style=\"max-width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1798722\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1 690w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3-625x352.jpg 625w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3-650x366.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3-141x80.jpg 141w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nes-3-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The game&#8217;s J.C. It&#8217;s even more rare to find a vintage game with its original tag and receipts, <a href=\"https:\/\/comics.ha.com\/itm\/video-games\/nintendo\/kid-icarus-nes-nintendo-1987-wata-80-a-seal-rating-variant-rev-a-round-soq\/a\/7211-91099.s#guides-info\"  rel=\"noopener\">according to Heritage Auctions<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amos doesn&#8217;t actually recall buying the NES title.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I can remember the game,&#8221; he told the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gazette Journal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. &#8220;My neighbor down the street had it. I remember it being hard, and I was never that good of a gamer guy.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The family man plans to split the proceeds 50-50 with his older sister.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We&#8217;re doing a Disney World vacation next month,&#8221; Amos said. &#8220;Instead of doing something responsible, we&#8217;re going to have some fun with it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set in a fantasy world, Nintendo&#8217;s 1980s platformer follows Cupid-esque angel Pit on his quest for Three Sacred Treasures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite mixed reviews\u2014praised for its music and mixture of genre-bending gameplay elements, criticized for its graphics and high-difficulty level\u2014&#8221;Kid Icarus&#8221; has risen to cult status.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sequel &#8220;Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters&#8221; was released for GameBoy in 1991; and a third entry in the series, &#8220;Kid Icarus: Uprising,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/games\/pre-order-kid-icarus-uprising-get-nes-version-for-free-1460381\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">hit Nintendo 3DS in 2012<\/a>, following Pit&#8217;s inclusion as a playable character in 2008&#8217;s &#8220;Super Smash Bros. Brawl.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February, a rare mint-condition, sealed copy of &#8220;Super Mario Bros.&#8221; for NES <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/culture\/sealed-copy-of-super-mario-bros-for-nes-fetches-over-100000-in-auction-1774618\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">set a world record<\/a> when it sold for $100,150 at auction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nintendo reprinted the popular title between 1985 and 1994.
