Nowadays, new vehicles are rolling off production lines with massive touchscreen infotainment systems. Sony wants you to be able to enjoy a similar in-car experience, even if you only have a limited amount of space.<\/p>\n

Sony recently added the XAV-AX8000<\/a> to its product listings, and it’s noteworthy for a few reasons<\/a>. For starters, it’s compatible with both Android Auto and Apple’s Car Play. It also boasts an expansive 8.95-inch touchscreen display.<\/p>\n

The best part, however, is that the XAV-AX8000 does it all in a package that fits into a single DIN opening. Sure, you could achieve a similar effect by installing one of those vent-mount tablet holders in your 1982 Cavalier (the car yours truly learned to drive on)… but Sony’s receiver will look way<\/em> more impressive.<\/p>\n

The XAV-AX8000 can pump 55 watts to four channels and you can position the display exactly how you want it thanks to Sony’s three-way adjustable mount. It’s compatible with most back-up cameras, because you don’t always need to use a screen this size to ogle album artwork or tapping through apps.<\/p>\n

Speaking of apps, Sony knows that some of your favorites don’t yet play nicely with Android Auto. To bridge the gap they’re adding support for AbaltaTech’s WebLink tech, which lets you mirror supported apps to a compatible in-dash receiver.<\/p>\n

The AX8000 is a follow-up of sorts to Sony’s XAV-AX5000, though, as Android Police notes, that model is a double-DIN unit with a display that’s three inches smaller. The 5000 is also quite a bit cheaper. Right now it retails for about $350.<\/p>\n

The XAV-AX8000, on the other hand, is going to arrive with a street price of around $600<\/a>. It’s a bit steep, sure, but not bad when you look at similar models that are available right now.<\/p>\n

Alpine’s single-DIN ILX-F259<\/a> also features a 9-inch display and it sells for $595 \u2014 but it only delivers 18W per channel. Pioneer’s AVH-3500NEX<\/a> sells for $50 less, but it does 14W per channel and the display is 2 inches smaller.<\/p>\n
