(@WedgeLIVE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WedgeLIVE\/status\/1156962277418926080?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 1, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Minneapolis City Council hopes this change will reduce idling and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent in 30 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A larger plan, dubbed <a href=\"https:\/\/minneapolis2040.com\/goals\"  rel=\"noopener\">Minneapolis 2040<\/a>, also plans to phase out gas stations and mandatory parking regulations\u2014the latter of which encourages car ownership in the metropolitan area, according to CNET.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As an added perk, the zoning reform <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.streetsblog.org\/2019\/08\/09\/minneapolis-just-banned-drive-throughs\"  rel=\"noopener\">could also boost pedestrian safety<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It takes a lot of concentration to understand and respond to the crackling voice behind the drive-thru menu screen. And, OMG, the excitement of that piping-hot bag of grease sitting in your lap\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you think about it, drive-thrus are a recipe for disaster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/fdotwww.blob.core.windows.net\/sitefinity\/docs\/default-source\/research\/reports\/fdot-bdv25-977-30-rpt.pdf?sfvrsn=80c579ce_2\"  rel=\"noopener\">2017 study<\/a> by the University of South Florida found that each fast food joint in a low-income block added an average 0.69 pedestrian crashes every four years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McDonald&#8217;s, Wendy&#8217;s, and Taco Bell were associated with an increased risk of severe injuries.
