{"id":156139,"date":"2019-08-15T17:08:36","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T09:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/featured\/-1800104\/"},"modified":"2019-08-15T17:08:36","modified_gmt":"2019-08-15T09:08:36","slug":"amazon-to-donate-unsold-products-instead-of-trashing-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itteacheritfreelance.hk\/test\/wordpress\/2019\/08\/15\/amazon-to-donate-unsold-products-instead-of-trashing-them\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon to Donate Unsold Products Instead of Trashing Them"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/amazon-650x366.jpeg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"figcaption\">(via Amazon)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazon is <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.aboutamazon.com\/small-business\/amazon-to-enable-donation-of-excess-and-returned-products-to-charities-for-sellers-who-use-fulfillment-by-amazon\"  rel=\"noopener\">launching a new donation program<\/a> for third-party sellers in the US and UK.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting next month, the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) Donations scheme will be the default option for independent sellers looking to dispose of excess or returned products stored in Amazon warehouses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We know getting products into the hands of those who need them transforms lives and strengthens local communities,&#8221; Alice Shobe, director of Amazon in the Community, said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We are delighted to extend this program to sellers who use our fulfillment services,&#8221; she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Items will be distributed in the US through Good360, which works with retailers to source products and distribute them through a network of nonprofits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the UK, Amazon is teaming with charities like Newlife, Salvation Army, and Barnardo&#8217;s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;At Amazon, the vast majority of returned products are resold to other customers or liquidators, returned to suppliers, or donated to charitable organizations, depending on their condition,&#8221; a company spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/08\/14\/amazon-launches-fba-donations-program-for-unsold-inventory.html\"  rel=\"noopener\">told CNBC<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Merchants can choose to opt out of the new donation service. Though it won&#8217;t do anything for their public image.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/amazon-warehouses-trash-millions-of-unsold-products-say-media-reports\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Recent reports suggest<\/a> Amazon warehouses in Britain and France routinely trash unsold products: One facility allegedly sent 293,000 items to a local dump over a nine-month period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This program will reduce the number of products sent to landfills and instead help those in need,&#8221; according to an Amazon email announcement, published by CNBC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FBA Donations is the company&#8217;s latest attempt to cut down on waste.
