British Airways is bringing First Class customers a 3D cinema in the skies through virtual reality headsets on select flights (via Nick Morrish\/British Airways)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n

First Class customers on select British Airways flights from London Heathrow to New York JFK can now pass the time in virtual reality<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the end of this year, BA is providing a selection of films, documentaries, and travel programs in 2D, 3D, and 360-degree formats.<\/span><\/p>\n

Headsets from VR eyewear specialist SkyLights provide travelers with an immersive experience, whether the seat back is in the upright and locked position or fully reclined.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are always looking at the latest technology to enhance our customers’ experience on the ground and in the air,” Sajida Ismail, head of inflight product at BA, said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

British Airways is the first UK airline to trial this technology. The company selected a range of therapeutic programs\u2014including guided meditation and sound therapy\u2014geared at those passengers with a fear of flying.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Virtual reality has the power to revolutionize in-flight entertainment and we’re really excited to trial these new glasses as they should create a unique and memorable journey for our First [Class] customers,” Ismail said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Top-tier patrons can look for VR headsets on selected BA117 through December 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this year, BA trialled the virtual reality technology at Heathrow Terminal 5, giving premium customers a glimpse of the simulated Club World cabin.<\/span><\/p>\n

These new features come as British Airways celebrates 100 years of air travel with an exhibition at London’s Saatchi Gallery, and a \u00a36.5 billion ($7.9 billion) investment to improve its aircraft.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the next five years, look for high-quality Wi-Fi and power in every seat, updated interiors, and 72 new aircraft.<\/span><\/p>\n
