(Photo Credit: Astroland)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>While NASA has announced in June that it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/nasa-to-open-international-space-station-to-tourists-commercial-business-from-2020-1790894\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">opening the International Space Station to tourists<\/a> from 2020, wannabe astronauts may have to wait a while to visit Mars. One company, however, is making it possible for adventurers to experience life on the Red Planet now \u2013 without leaving Earth&#8217;s atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>The Astroland agency is offering thrill-seekers an underground expedition, located deep in a cave in the Canatabrian mountains in northern Spain, designed to simulate what it&#8217;s\u00a0like to live in a human colony on the Red Planet.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3mioqGCOnHo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The adventure involves spending three days and nights in the cave at the Ares Station, a &#8220;scientific Space Center that mirrors the harsh conditions&#8221; of Mars. The first expedition has already taken place by a test &#8220;crew,&#8221; but Astroland has four expeditions to be held through November.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stepping outside your comfort zone is one of the most exciting parts of travel, and for even the most adventurous, Astroland truly delivers,&#8221; Laurel Greatrix of TripAdvisor said, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-7375003\/Tourists-trip-MARS-stay-inside-cave-designed-mimic-Martian-surface.html\"  rel=\"noopener\">reported by <em>the Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/En6pK11-C60?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>According to TripAdvisor,\u00a0participants will also have online access to aerospace experts and psychologists, such as Gabriel Gonz\u00e1lez de la Torre, doctor of Neuropsychology at the University of C\u00e1diz and one of the few leading astronaut psychologists from Spain, and I\u00f1igo Mu\u00f1oz Elorza, instructor of astronauts in the European Astronaut Center, part of the European Space Agency.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, NASA is continuing work on its new, as-yet unnamed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/watch-mars-2020-rover-flexes-mechanical-arm-1797847\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Mars rover<\/a>, scheduled to launch in July 2020 and land on the Red Planet in February 2021. In July,\u00a0NASA scientists and engineers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/nasa-tests-mars-2020-rover-prototype-at-icelandic-lava-field-1800141\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">descended on the Lambahraun lava field<\/a> at the foot of Iceland\u2019s second biggest glacier, Langjokull, to test a rover prototype.
