But using your phone to unlock and start your car? That&#8217;s another story.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re buying new, you might have to upgrade to an expensive tech package&#8230; if there&#8217;s even one available. An aftermarket remote starter is another option, but not everyone is keen on having a third party tinker with their vehicle&#8217;s electronics.<\/p>\n<p>Korean startup Onekey thinks they&#8217;ve come up with a better option. It doesn&#8217;t involve any complicated wiring or deep technical knowledge of your vehicle&#8217;s systems.<\/p>\n<p>All you need is a fob and a little patience, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/one-key\/keto\/description\">a device called Keto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WgYpm57gATM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Keto works by keeping things simple. It&#8217;s a kind of remote button pusher, so it works with just about any fob for just about any vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Pop open the Keto base unit, insert one of your fobs, and then fire up the smartphone app. Any functions your fob can perform are supported. You can lock and unlock doors, open the trunk, or start the engine. All you have to do is map the fob&#8217;s buttons in the app and you&#8217;re good to go.<\/p>\n<p>I was curious about how Keto handles lockout protection \u2014 you have to leave the fob in the base unit and the base gets left in your vehicle.
