Literally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The messaging app this week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snap.com\/en-US\/news\"  rel=\"noopener\">introduced<\/a> 3D Camera Mode, allowing users to turn flat photos into lifelike works of art just by moving their handset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Use it to create snaps that capture spatial detail, changing perspective and appearance based on how you move your phone when you view them,&#8221; Team Snap wrote in a blog announcement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;These new snaps look different, act different, and feel different,&#8221; they said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The magical effect takes advantage of Apple&#8217;s TrueDepth camera system, which uses dot projector, infrared camera, and flood illuminator to map and recognize the owner&#8217;s face.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlock your phone, use Apple Pay, and gain access to secure apps with just one look. Or use the technology, dubbed Face ID, to bring emoji to life as animated characters.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V4EDQtmH_No?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You&#8217;ll find similar 3D effects in Snapchat&#8217;s filter carousel; swipe to add stickers, text, and overlays to really make 3D photos explode out of the screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Communication through contextually rich, visual snaps is simple yet powerful,&#8221; a Snapchat representative told Digital Trends. &#8220;Looking forward, we plan to continue innovating and partnering around new ways for Snapchatters to express themselves and have fun through the Snapchat camera.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The feature currently requires a front-facing camera with depth data\u2014i.e. iPhone X and newer models.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over time, the firm will support different sensors and gadgets.
