Vegetarians and climate activists, rejoice!<\/span><\/p>\n

The Impossible Burger makes its grocery store debut<\/a> today in Southern California.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time, Impossible Foods’ plant-based “meat” is now available in 27 Gelson’s Markets\u2014from Santa Barbara to San Diego.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additional retailers will be announced later this month, when the meatless meal launches at “some of America’s favorite grocery stores” on the east coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Production of the Impossible Burger uses 95 percent less land and 74 percent less water than ground beef from cows, and emits 87 percent less greenhouse gas, according to the firm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their signature sandwich, upgraded early this year, also promises direct health benefits like additional protein, less total fat, zero cholesterol, and fewer calories than a similar-sized meat burger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not to mention it’s gluten-free.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We can’t wait for home cooks to experience the magic,” company CEO Patrick O. Brown said in a statement. “Whether using Impossible Burger in their family favorites or inventing new recipes that go viral.”<\/span><\/p>\n

To celebrate its retail launch, Impossible Foods teamed up with Chrissy Teigen’s mother, culinary enthusiast Vilailuck “Pepper Thai” Teigen, for a cooking show-style VIP event and launch party.<\/span><\/p>\n

California locals can visit the Westfield Century City’s Cabana today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT (while supplies last) for free samples.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our first step into retail is a watershed moment in Impossible Foods’ history,” according to Senior Vice President Nick Halla, who oversees the company’s retail expansion.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We’re thrilled and humbled that our launch partners for this limited release are homegrown, beloved grocery stores with cult followings in their regions,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Founded in 1951, Gelson’s will roll unveil new recipes featuring the Impossible Burger, also available at the grocery chain’s wine and tapas bars.<\/span><\/p>\n

Impossible Foods recently received FDA approval for use of “magic ingredient” soy leghemoglobin, which makes meat taste like meat, without actually containing animal flesh.<\/span><\/p>\n
