Flying off for a weekend to France is a luxury most people can’t afford.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to a long-standing partnership between the Palace of Versailles and Google Arts & Culture, though, you don’t have to spend a penny to visit the Parisian royal residence<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Today, we’re launching a new online exhibition for everyone who can’t make it to Paris or who wants to explore this majestic place in a new way,” Catherine P\u00e9gard, president of the Palace of Versailles, wrote in a blog announcement<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new VersaillesVR app<\/a>\u2014”a technological first in the cultural world”\u2014takes visitors on a virtual reality tour of the Royal Grand Apartments, Chapel, and Opera.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using photogrammetry, Google was able to reconstruct three-dimensional models of objects and landmarks from two-dimensional images.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s an invitation to discover the secrets of Versailles, and a magnificent sneak peek for those who might plan to visit in person,” P\u00e9gard said. “Though nothing will ever replace the emotion of actually stepping into the Palace, we hope this visual immersion might inspire you to do just that.”<\/span><\/p>\n
