{"id":167143,"date":"2019-10-10T00:59:30","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T16:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/?p=257835"},"modified":"2019-10-10T00:59:30","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T16:59:30","slug":"att-offloads-caribbean-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itteacheritfreelance.hk\/test\/wordpress\/2019\/10\/10\/att-offloads-caribbean-assets\/","title":{"rendered":"AT&amp;T offloads Caribbean assets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        \tAT&#38;T revealed plans to sell its mobile and fixed assets in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to broadband provider Liberty Latin America for nearly $2 billion, as it continues to shed outlying businesses to cut debt.<\/p>\n<p>The $1.95 billion deal includes the handover of AT&#38;T\u2019s network assets; spectrum; real estate and related leases; contracts; and customers, including 1.1 million mobile subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Some 1,300 AT&#38;T employees will also transfer to Liberty Latin America once the transaction is finalised.<\/p>\n<p>Liberty Latin America CEO Balan Nair said in a statement the addition of AT&#38;T\u2019s assets to its own broadband and TV portfolio \u201cwill create a strong and competitive integrated communications player\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>AT&#38;T noted the deal will not affect its commitment to build a dedicated network for emergency responders (known as FirstNet) in either location.<\/p>\n<p>Closing is subject to review by both the US Federal Communications Commission and Department of Justice, but is expected within nine months.<\/p>\n<p>John Stephens, AT&#38;T CFO, noted the transaction stemmed from the operator\u2019s \u201congoing strategic review of our balance sheet and assets,\u201d which aims to identify opportunities to raise funds to pay down billions in debt.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the operator sold its stake in Hulu [1] along with property in New York City.
