(Photo Credit: Sara Kurfe\u00df \/ Unsplash)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Twitter is banning all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/tech\/twitter-politicians-arent-entirely-above-our-rules-1807475\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">political ads<\/a> next month: Jack Dorsey, co-founder of the social network, announced that Twitter will no longer post political ads starting Nov. 22.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Dorsey shared the update in a series of tweets and said the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1189634376121798656?s=20\"  rel=\"noopener\">final policy<\/a> will be disclosed on Nov. 15, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/zmj5w5\/twitter-is-banning-political-ads\"  rel=\"noopener\">VICE reported<\/a>. So far, over 80,000 Twitter users have responded to his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\"  rel=\"noopener\">thread<\/a>, which was created today at approximately 4 p.m. EDT.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We\u2019ve made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally. Best to focus our efforts on the root problems, without the additional burden and complexity taking money brings. Trying to fix both means fixing neither well, and harms our credibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 jack ??? Additionally, it isn\u2019t fair for everyone but candidates to buy ads for issues they want to push. So we&#8217;re stopping these too.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 jack ??? (@jack) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1189634372334280704?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 30, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Dorsey went on to explain how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/tech\/twitter-very-sorry-it-misused-security-data-for-ads-1806766\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">internet political ads<\/a> could be challenging to civic discourse, because of deep fakes, micro-targeting, and machine learning-based optimization of messaging. According to Dorsey, these challenges will affect all internet communication and they raise credibility concerns.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A final note. This isn\u2019t about free expression. This is about paying for reach. And paying to increase the reach of political speech has significant ramifications that today\u2019s democratic infrastructure may not be prepared to handle.
