This time, though,<em> Call of Duty<\/em> is the one that had to play catch-up. After battle royale modes exploded in <em>PUBG<\/em> and <em>Fortnite<\/em>, <em>Call of Duty<\/em> introduced its own version of the concept in Blackout mode for last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/games\/geek-plays-call-of-duty-black-ops-iiii-1757144\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><em>Black Ops 4<\/em><\/a>. Even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/games\/call-of-duty-mobile-puts-war-in-your-pocket-1779046\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><em>Call of Duty Mobile<\/em><\/a>\u00a0challenges mass groups of players to be the last one standing.<\/p>\n<p>So it was strange to see this year\u2019s release, the <em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare<\/em> reboot, launch without its own murder island. But don\u2019t worry, recent leaks suggest <em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare<\/em> is in fact getting a battle royale mode.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the way <em>Call of Duty<\/em> games are made across different development teams, it\u2019s not surprising when a feature from one game doesn\u2019t appear in the immediate follow-up. When making this new <em>Modern Warfare<\/em>, maybe Infinity Ward didn\u2019t have enough time to wrap their heads around Treyarch\u2019s <em>Blacks Ops 4<\/em> battle royale tech in time for launch. So either the mode did exist and got cut, or more like it\u2019s just coming at a later date.
