There isn\u2019t a single week this month that won\u2019t have monster titles. This includes huge exclusives like PS4\u2019s <em>Death Stranding<\/em> and Nintendo\u2019s <em>Pokemon Sword &amp; Shield<\/em>. <em>Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order<\/em> will deliver the single-player <em>Star Wars<\/em> experience fans crave, while the PC will, at last, get a port of <em>Red Dead Redemption II<\/em>. Reviews have already shown this will be a highly divisive title. I can\u2019t speak for those reviews, but as a long-time Hideo Kojima fan, I\u2019m very stoked to finally play this one. I\u2019m mostly curious to see what Kojima can do when free of a publisher\u2019s (Konami&#8217;s) demands. <em>Death Stranding<\/em> could very well be his masterpiece. It could also be his <em>Star Wars<\/em> prequels. This is effectively a prettier version of the same game that wowed us last year. Expect 4K resolution and 60 fps. Besides some new weapons, horses, and an additional quest, the biggest add-on to this port is a proper photo mode. If you\u2019ve played one <em>Pokemon<\/em> game, you\u2019ve played them all. That\u2019s about to change with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/games\/huge-pikachu-and-other-amazing-new-sword-and-shield-pokemon-1807505\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><em>Pokemon Sword and Shield<\/em><\/a>. The biggest change here is that players will (finally) get to explore a fully 3D polygonal world. That aspect alone might bring in a new crop of players. I&#8217;m not exactly a fan of the franchise but even I\u2019m curious about this one. But EA has a license to maintain, hence the existence of <em>Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order<\/em>. This single-player experience is in some ways what we wanted from the canceled <em>Star Wars 1313<\/em> and Amy Hennig\u2019s <em>Star Wars<\/em> game. Players can expect intense lightsaber action, Force-focused platforming, and even some Metroidvania-ish exploration. Combat takes inspiration from <em>Dark Souls<\/em> with its reliance on blocking and countering. The original was a revolutionary title in its day so it\u2019ll be interesting to see how modern audiences take to this installment&#8217;s old-school mechanics. <em>Shenmue<\/em> is one of the titles that showed me how deep games can get in terms of immersing players in a living world. Though I\u2019m happy <em>Shenmue III<\/em> is dropping, I can\u2019t exactly say I\u2019m excited. I now have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/games\/everything-old-is-new-again-in-yakuza-kiwami-2-1749489\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><em>Yakuza<\/em><\/a> series to fill the void left by <em>Shenmue<\/em>. And if I\u2019m being completely honest, <em>Shenmue III<\/em>\u2019s graphics and character models are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/games\/shenmue-iiis-dead-eyed-characters-ruin-a-perfectly-good-debut-trailer-1712936\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">pretty disappointing<\/a>. If you\u2019ve played previous entries then you know what to expect here. Players will get to drive across a massive open-world filled with diverse environments. The main twist this time around is that there is no day\/night cycle. Instead, players can participate in different events that happen at specific times of the day. Day-time events have sanctioned races that reward winners with cash, while night-time races reward participants with reputation. This latest entry features many of the events found in previous titles like swimming, boxing, and gymnastics. It will also have some new events like surfing, karate, and skateboarding. This Nintendo Switch version will have a mode inspired by the 1964 Olympics. What\u2019s fun about this mode is that it is in 2D; with Mario and Sonic appearing in their 8 and 16-bit forms (respectively).
