YouTube’s homepage makeover makes it easier to find the next great video to watch (via YouTube)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n

YouTube got a makeover.<\/span><\/p>\n

The video-sharing platform on Thursday introduced<\/a> a new homepage design, rolling out across desktops and Android and iOS tablet apps.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fresh layout, according to senior product manager Essam El-Dardiry, “brings more features to the viewing experience on Home to help you find the next great video to watch.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Most notable are the longer video titles and larger thumbnails, which offer clearer at-a-glance information, not to mention higher-resolution previews. And while the company removed some content shelves, users can still find rows for videos about breaking news, music mixes, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Channel icons below each video also make it easier to recognize favorite creators and preferred content.<\/span><\/p>\n

Customize what to watch next with your queue (via YouTube)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“You’ve told us you want a better way to queue up<\/a> the next video to watch,” El-Dardiry wrote in a blog announcement. “So we’re introducing the option to add to queue on desktop.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Select a number of videos to watch next, without interrupting the one currently playing.<\/span><\/p>\n

But remember that those in your queue won’t save after closing the browser; instead, add them to your permanent “Watch Later” playlist.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We launched a feature on mobile earlier this year<\/a> to make it even simpler for you to tell us to stop suggesting videos from a particular channel,” according to El-Dardiry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, that same function is available on desktop.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remove suggestions from channels you don’t want to watch (via YouTube)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Just select the three-dot menu next to a video on the homepage and select “Don’t recommend channel.” You may still be able to find that (or similar) content via search, the channel page, or the Trending tab.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming soon: the ability to select favorite topics and customize the Home feed with related videos.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We’ve been experimenting with this updated design for a few months and, based on your input, have made dozens of improvements to the layout,” the blog said. “We’re excited to roll this out to everyone, and we hope you’ll find the updated design and new features helpful as you navigate the incredible breadth of content available on YouTube.”<\/span><\/p>\n
