So why not get paid for it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The social media giant this week introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/viewpoints.fb.com\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Viewpoints<\/a>, a market research app that rewards people for participating in surveys, tasks, and research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We believe the best way to make products better is to get insights directly from people who use them,&#8221; product manager Erez Naveh <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2019\/11\/introducing-facebook-viewpoints\"  rel=\"noopener\">wrote in an announcement<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collected data will be considered for improvements to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal, and Oculus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interested users can download the Facebook Viewpoints app to set up an account and watch for program invitations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The platform requires personal data like your name, email address, country of residence, date of birth, and gender\u2014&#8221;to qualify you for individual programs,&#8221; according to Naveh.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w6hT7gs2uGE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before diving in, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/viewpoints\"  rel=\"noopener\">read the fine print<\/a> about what information will be collected and how it will be used, as well as how many points you&#8217;ll receive upon completion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reach 1,000 points to get a $5 reward, which is sent directly to a linked PayPal account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently available only to folks in the US who are 18 years or older, Viewpoints makes it debut with a well-being survey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We want to better understand how the use of social media like Facebook can impact people&#8217;s well-being,&#8221; Naveh said. &#8220;Information from this survey will help us build better products that aim to limit the negative impacts of social media and enhance the benefits.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook has a dubious history of keeping digital data safe.
