(Photo Credit:  Cory Huston \/ NASA)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/boeing-delays-first-crewed-flight-to-space-station-to-late-2019-gets-extended-duration-1781425\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Boeing CST-100 Starliner spacecraft<\/a> has taken a significant step toward launch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Headed for the International Space Station on the company&#8217;s uncrewed Orbital Flight Test, Starliner last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/boeing-cst-100-starliner-takes-next-step-for-orbital-flight-test\"  rel=\"noopener\">made the 10-mile trek<\/a> from the Kennedy Space Center to Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This is critical to our future as a nation,&#8221; Space Center Director Bob Cabana said in a statement. &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to get astronauts flying on U.S. rockets from U.S. soil, and this is just a huge step forward.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cabana was joined by NASA&#8217;s Commercial Crew Program (CCP) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/tech\/boeing-unveils-loyal-wingman-combat-drone-that-could-fly-alongside-piloted-jets-1776461\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Boeing leaders<\/a>, as well as employees and family members, to watch Starliner roll out of the factory on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;For the team that has built the first American spacecraft designed to land on land, and to get it rolling out, is absolutely incredible,&#8221; according to John Mulholland, vice president and program manager of Boeing Commercial Crew Programs. &#8220;Something this complex takes a huge team.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secure atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/astronauts-test-new-spacesuits-for-spacexs-first-crewed-test-flight-1799697\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">spacecraft<\/a> is ready for its first flight test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Look at that amazing sight and what your success looks like,&#8221; CCP Manager Kathy Lueders urged workers.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1811718\" style=\"max-width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1811718\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1 690w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2-625x352.jpg 625w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2-650x366.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2-141x80.jpg 141w, https:\/\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/starliner-2-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boeing&#8217;s Starliner rolls out from the Commercial Crew and Cargo Processing Facility at NASA&#8217;s Kennedy Space Center. (Photo Credit: Boeing)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the team is not finished yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve got to step into the mission carefully, fly this vehicle up to the Space Station, and bring it home safely,&#8221; Lueders said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The uncrewed flight test, targeted to launch Dec. 17, will provide valuable data on the end-to-end performance of the Atlas V rocket, Starliner spacecraft, and grous systems, as well as in-orbit docking and landing operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That information will be used as part of NASA&#8217;s process of certifying Boeing&#8217;s crew transportation system for carrying astronauts to and from the ISS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This is the dawn of a new era,&#8221; according to Boeing rocketeer Chris Ferguson\u2014one of three astronauts assigned to the Starliner Crew Test Flight mission\u2014who was on hand to witness the rollout milestone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;For all of you youngsters \u2026 who came out here early to watch, I&#8217;m glad you were a part of this,&#8221; he said.
