{"id":178889,"date":"2019-11-27T20:12:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-27T12:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/featured\/-1812046\/"},"modified":"2019-11-27T20:12:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T12:12:06","slug":"twitter-to-start-repossessing-inactive-accounts-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itteacheritfreelance.hk\/test\/wordpress\/2019\/11\/27\/twitter-to-start-repossessing-inactive-accounts-next-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter To Start Repossessing Inactive Accounts Next Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.geek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/twitter-Sara-KurfeBUnsplash-650x366.jpeg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"figcaption\">(via Sara Kurfe\u00df\/Pixabay)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lazy Twitter users, beware: Starting Dec. 11, the microblogging service will shutter inactive accounts and release those usernames back into the wild.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any account that has not been signed into for more than six months will receive an email alert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;As part of our commitment to serve the public conversation, we&#8217;re working to clean up inactive accounts to present more accurate, credible information people can trust across Twitter,&#8221; a spokesperson told Geek in an email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Part of this effort is encouraging people to log in and use Twitter\u2014as stated in <a href=\"https:\/\/help.twitter.com\/en\/rules-and-policies\/inactive-twitter-accounts\"  rel=\"noopener\">the company&#8217;s inactive accounts policy<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We have begun proactive outreach to many accounts who have not logged into Twitter in over six months to inform them that their accounts may be permanently removed due to prolonged inactivity,&#8221; the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dormant users can expect <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chailey_\/status\/1199469854492954625\"  rel=\"noopener\">an email urging them<\/a> to &#8220;log in and follow the on-screen prompts before Dec. 11, 2019.&#8221; Otherwise their account will be removed and thrown into a grab bag of names for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hunger Games<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-style selection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BBC reporter Dave Lee first noted the change on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"embed\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">More on Twitter&#39;s action on inactive accounts: The company is clawing back accounts that have been inactive for more than *six months*, which is likely a very large number.
