Snopes has you covered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fact-checking website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/projects\/founding-members\"  rel=\"noopener\">launched a crowdfunding campaign<\/a> to raise money ahead of what will surely be a busy year for verification services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We have big plans for 2020,&#8221; the page said. &#8220;We need your help.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we enter a new decade\u2014and another election cycle\u2014Snopes wants to beef up its operations by hiring more fact-checkers and developers (only 10 people currently work in the newsroom) and upgrading its website, among other improvements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since its creation in 1994, Snopes (initially known as the Urban Legends Reference Pages) has funded its work through advertising and occasional partnerships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Everything about the site since its inception has been a long, slow, evolutionary process, from what it looked like to the material we covered to how it was funded,&#8221; founder David Mikkelson <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/12\/20\/snopes-rolls-its-own-crowdfunding-infrastructure-to-prepare-for-2020s-disinformation-warfare\"  rel=\"noopener\">told TechCrunch<\/a>. &#8220;This is just another part of that process.
