(Photo Credit: Norah Moran \/ NASA)<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the world prepared to visit a galaxy far, far away last month, two <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cast members <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/star-wars-goes-to-space-actors-train-like-astronauts\"  rel=\"noopener\">trained for a mission<\/a> closer to home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Dec. 11, Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) and Naomi Ackie (Jannah) spent the day learning about NASA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/any-woman-can-see-themself-in-nasas-artemis-logo-1808553\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Artemis program<\/a>, which will help put the first woman and next man on the lunar south pole by 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L4aPZ2WZhac?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The actors (presumably expendable during the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rise of Skywalker<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> press tour) traveled to NASA&#8217;s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where they fangirled their way through the facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After taking a spin in simulated zero and micro gravity via the agency&#8217;s Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS), Ackie and Tran tried on spacesuits, hung out in a space capsule, toured space station mockups and mission control, taste-tested astronaut grub, and drove a lunar rover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They ended their day with a space-to-ground call from ISS rocketeers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/news\/nasas-christina-koch-sets-female-spaceflight-record-1815025\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Christina Koch<\/a>, Jessica Meir, Andrew Morgan, and Luca Parmitano.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pair were accompanied by NASA astronauts Meghan McArthur (a veteran of the space shuttle missions STS-125) and Jessica Watkins (a recent graduate from basic training).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just as droids roam the moons of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> universe, NASA sends robotic explorers, science instruments, and technology demonstrations to explore Earth&#8217;s satellite.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><i>Star Wars<\/i> Goes to Space<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/tech\/mark-hamill-deletes-facebook-account-over-political-ads-1816132\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars: Episode IX<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is now playing at an International Space Station (relatively) near you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geek.com\/culture\/baby-yoda-gets-some-competition-from-baby-jabba-1816656\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Disney<\/a> recently sent the film through mission control to Expedition 61 crew members living and working aboard the orbiting laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Watching films aboard the space station is one way for the crew to bond and decompress,&#8221; Bettina Incl\u00e1n, associate administrator for NASA communications, said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no word on whether the team munched floating popcorn as they caught up on the final chapter of the Skywalker saga over the weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;On occasion, we&#8217;re able to share some of the latest film releases for them to enjoy at their leisure and as free time allows,&#8221; according to Incl\u00e1n. &#8220;Science fiction films are often the most popular among astronauts.
