The annual Pokemon GO Halloween event has arrived, which means players have a ton to do to stay busy in the game between now and early November. In addition to some Special Research to work through and a handful of shiny Pokemon up for grabs, there are also some new spooky Battle Raid bosses that many trainers will be challenging.
Mega Gengar is likely the most exciting addition to the Battle Raid boss lineup, but that isn’t the meta relevant Pokemon that players can challenge and encounter this week. The regular Legendary slot has been handed over to Darkrai, which means players have another chance to defeat and catch the powerful Legendary Dark-type.
Darkrai is a powerful adversary, but veteran players should be able to easily take it down with a team of 3-6 players using the correct counters. It is also possible to duo against Darkrai, but that is only recommended for maxed out players with perfect counters and the correct Friendship and weather boosts. For the average Battle Raid user, these are the best choices for filling out a lineup to take advantage of Darkrai’s weaknesses to Fighting-, Fairy-, and Bug-types.
For players who want the simplest strategy, just select the most powerful Fighting- or Fairy-type that is available. There are obviously some Pokemon who will get the job done faster than others, but in general a strong roster of Fighting and Fairy type Pokemon will get the job done.
Conkeldurr – Counter Dynamic Punch
Lucario – Counter Aura Sphere
Beedrill (Mega) – Bug Bite X Scissor
Machamp – Counter Dynamic Punch
Togekiss – Charm Dazzling Gleam
Hariyama – Counter Dynamic Punch
Heracross – Counter Megahorn
Toxicroak – Counter Dynamic Punch
Volcarona – Bug Bite Bug Buzz
Breloom – Counter Dynamic Punch
As always, there are lots of other counters out there that can still get the job down, but players who want to power through this Legendary Battle Raid without any problems would have the best luck if they used the options presented here. Remember to take a close look at each Pokemon’s moveset and current power level before adding them to the counter roster. It may be necessary to burn through some TMs, Stardust, and Candy in order to properly prepare each counter for the big fight ahead.
For now, Pokemon GO trainers should be able to head out into the world (or play from home) and continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
