Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Kung Lao Has An Infinite Combo

The latest iteration of the Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, has some throwbacks to games of old. Some are fun for everyone like, possibly, a new secret Reptile fight. Others are varying degrees of fun, like an infinite combo.

Infinite combos are certainly not unique to Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, and have appeared in several fighting games. Basically, an infinite combo is exactly what it says: a combo that can be repeated infinitely. When done correctly, an opponent cannot break free and can have their health reduced to nothing very quickly. One player, who goes by The Kompetitor on YouTube, has discovered that Kung Lao now has an infinite combo, but there’s a catch.

To properly perform the infinite, a player must first get the enemy into hitstun, then unleash Kung Lao’s Possessed Hat special move. This is one of several special moves he can equip, and it flings his hat as a zig-zag projectile. Used up close, it leaves an opening for Kung Lao to transition directly into his basic jab. The jab combo can lead directly into another Possessed Hat, and the cycle continues until the opponent loses or rage quits. It’s a violent bit of Mortal Kombat gameplay that will have some players wince more than a Fatality.

However, rage quits may prove rare, and the wincing may be done by whoever’s playing Kung Lao. This is because the infinite, while true, is very hard to pull off. The timing for following Possessed Hat with a jab is exactly one frame and cannot be buffered. That means a player has a very, very small window of time to input the jab, and if it’s not done perfectly, the opponent escapes.

Granted, Kung Lao is one of the friendliest characters for new Mortal Kombat 11 players. His mechanics are easy to learn, but require practice to master, making him a good character for play at any level. Theoretically, someone could learn the infinite and practice it right from the time they picked the character up.

Even then, the odds are that the infinite would find little use in a full-on fight because the timing is ridiculously precise, and to use it fully, a player would have to hit that timing over and over again without fail. Besides, there are many other fun things to do in MK11 rather than obsessing over an infinite, like making Rambo fight the Terminator or any of the other major DLC characters.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
