Destiny 2‘s in-game puzzles are legendary. Bungie’s cultivated a fanbase incredibly dedicated to the looter shooter franchise, so when new content is released, Destiny 2 players hunt down secrets and puzzles like bloodhounds, piece them together bit by bit, and celebrate completing them as a community. Wish 15, however, is the secret that got away. It’s a now years-old secret that was never solved, and it now looks like Destiny 2 players may forever be denied the chance.
Data scrapers for Destiny 2 have noted that in a recent update, it appears that Bungie has removed the official Triumph for completing the Fifteenth Wish. The Wishes are an interesting puzzle element to the Destiny 2: Forsaken Raid Last Wish. A room within the raid allowed players to enter a pattern by pressing any number of buttons. After solving each Wish, the players would earn a Triumph. In other words, if the Fifteenth Wish Triumph is no longer in the game, it may be Bungie’s way of saying Wish 15 is no longer completable.
However, the Fifteenth Wish Triumph isn’t gone entirely, it just appears to have been removed from the Wall of Wishes Triumph collection and exists apart from everything else. Obviously, its continued existence only adds more confusion to the matter, but it doesn’t necessarily change anything.
There’s some speculation regarding what all of this means for Wish 15. The simplest theory is that Bungie has retired the Triumph, as the Fifteenth Wish can no longer be acquired. As such, the Triumph is considered “vaulted.” Bungie’s done this with other Triumphs, where they exist behind the scenes but aren’t actually acquirable. The other theory, the hopeful theory, is that Bungie is setting Wish 15 aside for the time being with plans to bring both the puzzle and its Triumph back in the future. This could just be a transitionary pause or fix for the puzzle.
Regardless of the status of the Wish 15 puzzle right now, a lot of questions have been raised. Questions about whether Wish 15 was ever completable in the first place, or why Bungie’s never been willing to talk about it even when it’s apparently making changes to it behind the scenes. And despite the renewed questions about Wish 15, it seems very unlikely that Bungie will provide any answers.
If this is the end of Wish 15’s seemingly endless mystery, then there is a bit of poetry to it. Destiny 2 players have been trying to solve Wish 15 for years and have yet to complete it. Now, two years later, there are more questions surrounding Wish 15 than ever.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
