10 Hidden Details Everyone Missed In Demon’s Souls PS5

The Demon’s Souls Remake is a launch title for the Playstation 5 and a complete overhaul of the 2009 classic action game by renowned Japanese studio FromSoftware. The remake may be done by the studio that is likely now known as the king of remakes Bluepoint Games, this game is still a FromSoft game in essence.

FromSoft games are known for their subtlety, depth, and painstaking attention to detail. The original game had so many hidden details only the pros and lore diggers were able to dig up and discover. This remake is very much the same. There are a lot of hidden details in this game many people who have played the game most likely have not discovered yet.

10 NPC Facial Animation

The original Demon’s Souls is considered one of the best video games of all time, but it was admittedly limited by the technology of its time. Many of the things we are so used to in video games nowadays are absent from the original game due to said limitation. One of the seemingly minor ones is more detailed facial animations.

In this remake, however, Bluepoint Games is able to add this minor feature to make the game and the world more worthy of the title of a next-gen game. It also allows the NPCs to have a bit more of a personality. It may be a minor detail, but its one the developers could have completely ignored but chose not to.

9 The Secret Door

Demon’s Souls Remake is lauded for being incredibly faithful to the original 2009 title, which is why it came as a wonderful surprise to many when players found a secret locked door located behind an illusory wall in level 1 – 3. This door wasn’t in the previous game, so it baffled fans as to what this door was for and what lies beyond it.

It didn’t take long for the community to figure out how to open it, though. Those who have played Bluepoint Games’ remake of Shadow of the Colossus will know that they’ve done something like this already. If the player collects 26 ceramic coins and give it to Sparkly the Crow, they’ll be given the Rusted Key which they can use to open the secret door.

8 Ceramic Coins

The ceramic coins are hidden items players will need to collect to open the secret door Bluepoint Games placed in the game, a secret that brought Demon’s Souls players from all around the world together, scrambling for answers, desperate for solutions.

Players will not be able to find these coins just roaming around the world. Instead, they’ll first have to use Fractured mode and flip the world vertically. It is only then the ceramic coins will appear in the most inconsequential of places. 26 are needed to be given to Sparkly the Crow in exchange for the Rusted Key. Hilariously, if the crow is given anything less, he will drop the coins back to the ground. These coins also can’t be traded to other players online. Doing so will turn them to broken coins, rendering them useless.

7 Shortcut In 1-4

Bluepoint Games did not do much changes in the level design, remaining faithful to the source material. One of the most prominent changes they did make a change on, however, is a shortcut in 1 – 4, one of the final places in the game.

This is a shortcut many people actually wanted in the original game. It seems Bluepoint listened to these pleas and made it a reality in their remake. There’s a lever that players can pull, which opens a door to the tower. This shortcut will allow players to skip the first part of the bridge where the dragon lingers.

6 Rescuing Yuria

Yuria, the Witch is one of the NPCs in the game players can rescue, which in turn can help them become stronger to overcome the challenges of the game. The things players will have to do to rescue Yuria is not easy, but this wasn’t always the case.

To rescue Yuria, players will have to collect and equip the full Fat Official set. In the original game, players only needed to equip the Fat Official hat. The change actually makes more sense lore-wise, even though its much more taxing to do so this time around.

5 From Fast Roll To Fat Roll

There are two types of rolling in Demon’s Souls. The fast roll and what’s known in the Souls community as the fat rolling. The former is exactly as it sounds—an effecient and smooth type of rolling. The latter is a heavier, clunkier type of rolling which delays poise right after the roll’s recovery.

What many players don’t quite know yet is when exactly this transition happens. All the players need to watch out for, if they want to keep their rolling fast and smooth, is to refrain from exceeding their equip burden to 50%.

4 The Cat Ring

The Cat Ring is an accessory item you can collect in the game. This ring will allow players to negate one of the things many players of the original game disliked: fall damage. The ring will not nullify fatal falls, but it will decrease the damage considerably.

In the original game, the status effect icon for the ring was an image of a real cat. Whether this was intentional or a mistake on FromSoft’s part is unknown, but it quickly became a well-known meme. In this game, that’s not the case anymore, but the same picture of the beloved cat can be found pinned on a tree during the credits.

3 Additional Uses For Photo Mode

The photo mode is a feature that everyone almost expects in their games nowadays. Demon’s Souls Remake has this too, despite the feature being absent from the original game. The photo mode allows players to really take in the gorgeous graphical detail Bluepoint poured into this remake. On top of that, players can take advantage of its other hidden uses as well.

Soulsborne games, aside from Sekiro, did not allow its players to pause their games. The same can technically be said for this remake, but using the photo mode will actually pause the game, serving the prior absent purpose. Players can even change the controls on the settings so they can bring up photo mode in just one click of one side of the touch pad.

2 Defense Stat

It is no secret that Demon’s Souls is a highly unforgiving game. It is difficult, but it is also very rewarding. To make sure players are able to navigate through the strenous worlds effectively, the game makes it easy for them to increase their defense stat.

It’s so easy, in fact, that no matter which attribute players raise, it will also increase their defense concurrently. Whatever type of build a player chooses to opt for, they will always have a high defense, which is more than a necessity in a game as challenging as Demon’s Souls.

1 The Primeval Demon

The game’s world tendency mechanic can be quite complicated at initial notice, but it’s really not that tricky to comprehend. Whenever the character dies in human form, kill specific NPCs, or defeat a phantom player, this will nudge the world tendecy towards black. Many players may choose to stay away from Pure Black world tendency as it makes the world considerably more difficult. Plus, it spawns Black Phantoms which are very tough to beat.

One thing that will allow players to revert back to white world tendency is the Primeval Demon. These demons will appear when the world has turn to black world tendency. Killing them will up the world tendency by +3.
