Elite Dangerous has been going strong for seven years since 2013, and the most recent expansion may give the game legs for the next seven. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Elite Dangerous: Odyssey would give players the ability to traverse and explore planets on foot, and now the community knows exactly what that looks like.
The newest trailer for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is the first gameplay look, and it is quite stunning. Shown off at this year’s The Game Awards, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey allows players to travel the stars.
The trailer (that is competing with other great trailers from The Game Awards) starts off simply showing the surface of various planets, as a spacecraft flies over. But 25 seconds in or so, the game shows someone walking directly on the surface, with footprints being left in their wake. With David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” playing in the background, the moment is quite cinematic.
Beyond exploration, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey also has gunplay that looks intriguing. The visuals are impressive in the trailer. Exploring new worlds and getting into some trouble in the process sounds like a good time.
Elite Dangerous: Horizon went free to play earlier this year, as different expansions in the game are accessible for free or at a cost. This new expansion seems like one that many fans of the game will be interesting in jumping in on as soon as possible. And, with the game being shown on such a big stage in a very interesting and effective trailer, there is a good chance that other gamers who haven’t had a chance to play the game yet will give it a shot.
Elite: Dangerous is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
