Monster Hunter has become one of Capcom’s most profitable franchises. While Monster Hunter World is the best selling Capcom game of all time, many fell in love with the franchise through the many iterations of the series on handheld devices like the PSP, Nintendo 3DS, and so forth.
So when Nintendo and Capcom announced two new Nintendo Switch exclusive Monster Hunter games back in September (Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin), many fans were quite pleased. And now, the producer and director of the games have provided a special message on the development of the two titles just in time for the holidays.
Producer of the Monster Hunter series, Ryozo Tsujimoto, and director of Monster Hunter Rise, Yasunori Ichinose, were kind enough to record a message to fans about the development of both Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. One of the most interesting and exciting tidbits from the message was the fact that the team is hoping to announce some information in January about Monster Hunter Rise. That could align perfectly with the rumored January Nintendo Direct, especially considering the fact that Monser Hunter Rise was initially revealed in a September Nintendo Direct in 2020.
Another very important thing from the message is simply the reiterated launch dates of both games. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin still has a summer 2021 release date, meaning the sequel to the 3DS Monster Hunter title is still on track.
Meanwhile, the two doubled down on the March 26, 2021 release date for Monster Hunter Rise. So while COVID-19 initially impacted the release of Monster Hunter Rise, it looks like Capcom now has a plan in place, which is very encouraging.
The mini-message from the development team to the fans is exactly what is often asked for. Although not much information is shared, it gives hints and possible teases at what is to come and simply gives a little bit of hope. The long droughts can often be disheartening for a fan base, as it can lead to questions about whether a game is suffering during development, for example. And when a message doubles down on a release date, as this Monster Hunter one does, it allows fans to be relieved that they can still pencil in that day as one they can look forward to.
Monster Hunter Rise is will release on the Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch and will release in summer 2021.
