It would seem that yet another sneak preview of Zack Snyder’s Justice League has made its way to the internet, courtesy of HBO Max. One of the biggest additions to the new director’s cut of the film is the reintroduction of Darkseid, who was originally intended to be the main villain but was cut out when the project was reduced severely in scope after Batman V. Superman.
When Snyder came around to announce that he would be getting an opportunity to take the film and bring his version of Justice League to the world, one of the first announcements made was that the supervillain Darkseid would be put back in as the overarching bad guy. His appearance comes complete with all-new CGI work done to bring the imposing figure to life when the film finally hits HBO Max.
The announcement was big news for DC fans, as Darkseid is right up there with Marvel villain Thanos in terms of unstoppable supervillains. A long time nemesis of Superman and the Justice League, Darkseid is one of the most dangerous recurring foes in the DC multiverse and was originally intended to be the primary villain of a two-film story.
Darkseid would supposedly have been introduced in the first Justice League movie, and then taken over as the big bad for part 2, in much the same way that Thanos beats the heroes in Infinity War, and then saves the final showdown for Avengers: Endgame. When those plans got scrapped and Zack Snyder left, however, the project was drastically reduced in scope and Darkseid was one of many plot points to get cut out of the film.
In this new director’s cut of Justice League, the villain will be restored to his full importance, and the most recent HBO Max image shares yet another look at his final design. A towering figure with complex armor and bright glowing eyes, he’s certainly an impressive looking foe, one who will no doubt spell trouble for the fledgling Justice League.
He is also flanked by two other characters, who are allied with Darkseid but have not had names or actors revealed as of yet. Hopefully, audiences will get some more information about Darkseid’s role and his allies as the run-up to the film’s release continues.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hit HBO Max on March 18th.
