Overwatch 2 Reveals New PvE Enemy Types | Game Rant

One of the key complaints of the first Overwatch was the lack of single-player and co-op options to differentiate from the standard competitive gameplay. Well a number of announcements made during BlizzCon have helped to show that Overwatch 2 is looking to correct the mistakes of its predecessor by having more complex PvE from the beginning.

Coming alongside the BlizzCon announcements, the game’s official Twitter account sent out a series of updates to give players a better look at the PvE coming to Overwatch 2. With these new updates, players have now been introduced to a few new enemy types that they can expect to face off against while playing through the upcoming Hero Missions the new game is preparing.

The first of these new enemy types for players to try fighting in Overwatch 2 is called an Elite Grunt, essentially a stronger enemy that can have different body parts shot off of, which can cause the enemy to continue to crawl towards the player. Next is an enemy called the Puller, who attacks by throwing a series of orbs at the player and drawing them in to be skewered by this new unit’s sharp, whip-like hair. Then finally there is the Breacher, an enemy that doesn’t so much attack the player as it does whatever the player might be protecting, by charging towards an objective and exploding.

Each of these new enemy types are intended to add a new layer to the PvE, which had been previously criticized for being underwhelming in Overwatch‘s current selection of missions. The result should hopefully mean a much more complex set of Hero Missions to give players that are more interested in PvE something new to gravitate towards in Overwatch 2. This is also only what’s been shown so far, so there is still a chance that Blizzard has even more in store for this specific type of gameplay moving forward.

An interesting bit of information that Blizzard has actually left out when it comes to how these new enemies will be utilized across Overwatch 2‘s new maps, is exactly what game modes will appear. Simply giving players a few, “Defend the point” or “Escort the Carriage” missions might not be quite enough for everything that the game seems to be promising, even with the new enemies. So, hopefully this new dedication towards AI controlled enemies is a step towards some more exciting game modes and maybe even Titanfall or Destiny inspired PvEvP encounters.

Overwatch 2 is currently in development by Blizzard.
