After launching less than a week ago on May 7, Resident Evil Village has managed to ship over 3 million units around the world.
Capcom’s latest entry in the iconic survival horror franchise has been as well-received as its other recent projects, with Capcom confirming via press release that the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC game has shipped a massive 3 million units.
The figure includes shipments to retailers, as well as digital sales, which is how Capcom usually counts it.
That’s roughly the same number of copies that Resident Evil 2 Remake achieved back when it launched in January 2019, and similar to what Resident Evil 7 managed to rake in within three days when it launched in 2017.
As of this 3 million strong bump, sales of the Resident Evil series as a whole have now crossed 100 million units. Capcom also notes that Resident Evil 7 has shipped over 8.5 million at the time of writing, no doubt seeing a slight uplift thanks to anticipation for Village.
Strong critical reception to the game has helped the game shift more units in its opening days, and the promise of more PvP content to come in the form of Resident Evil Re:Verse will also provide a longer tail for the game’s sales, too.
The tenth main installment in the series, Resident Evil Village is a narrative sequel to Resident Evil 7 and is set three years after the events of the game, following the tragic tale of Ethan Winters’ life.
“Resident Evil Village is an excellent and worthy sequel to RE7, even if it can’t quite meet that game’s heights – and action-lovers are in for a real treat,” wrote Alex in our Resident Evil Village review.
