This year celebrates the 5th anniversary of Toby Fox’s critically acclaimed game, Undertale. With it, new screenshots of Undertale‘s sequel, Deltarune, have been released in the most recent issue of Famitsu magazine.
Deltarune was originally released as a demo only containing Chapter 1 back on Halloween of 2018. Ever since then, fans have been waiting for more from Toby Fox and his small team regarding future updates and chapters.
The development update that players have been waiting for has been finally come with the aforementioned issue of Famitsu magazine. This Japanese magazine has devoted an entire section to Undertale‘s anniversary alongside new screenshots of the in-development second chapter for Deltarune.
These new screenshots show a new city area that Toby Fox has already shown a preview of on his Twitter, new enemies, and all three of the party members returning from chapter 1. The only difference is with Ralsei, who has taken off his hat which remains consistent with the end of chapter 1.
One of the screenshots shows Kris, Susie, and Ralsei in doctor-themed outfits along with medical-themed weapons. This could possibly be only used for a specific section of the upcoming chapter 2 or could possibly be unlockable costumes for the party members.
According to Famitsu, Toby Fox has completed the majority of the game design work for all of Deltarune‘s chapters with all of the cutscene dialogue being in its first draft at least. Additionally, work on chapter 2 has been going faster than the development for chapter 1.
What may concern some fans are Toby Fox’s words about not being sure about how many years of development Deltarune will need. Because of this, he has advised fans to forget about him and Deltarune instead of waiting on its release. Fox has additionally stated that he is the most hyped person for the eventual release of Deltarune.
Overall, Toby Fox is confident that the development of Deltarune will go smoothly, but fans are going to need to be patient for its release. These recent screenshots, however, are sure to excite those who’ve lost all hope in Deltarune‘s completion.
Deltarune Chapter 1 is available now on PC, PS4, and Switch.
