Everything You Need To Know About Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs Update

Yesterday, Mojang hosted a Minecraft Live even that revealed many new and exciting things for both Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons. While the event is filled with much information about both games including the new novel and the Giant Glowing Squid, which was voted by fans to be included in the game, the event also revealed the long-awaited update to Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs.

Of course, veteran Minecraft players would know that the community has long been requesting for an update to the game’s caves and cliffs. For several years now, the caves in Minecraft stayed mostly the same, despite that most players spend their time in Minecraft exploring the deep labyrinths of caves that contain valuable resources and tough enemies. Now, for those who may have missed yesterday’s event, here is a quick recap of everything players should know about the upcoming Caves and Cliffs update for Minecraft.

One of the biggest new features that fans should expect to see in Minecraft after the Caves and Cliffs update is the wide variety of caves that will be added to the game. In total, two new caves will be added to Minecraft namely lush and dripstone caves. In the Lush caves, players will find rare vegetation such as Glow Berries that will grow on vines. Of course, the new vibe of the lush caves is a stark contrast to the mostly-gray and empty caves in the current build of the game. On the other hand, Dripstone caves will be filled with stalactites and stalagmites, which are new additions to Minecraft and will provide players with new resources to collect.

Moreover, players will find a new tree called Azalea, which will serve as an indication to players that a lush cave is nearby. Additionally, players will also see Spore Blossoms in the caves, which are flowers that can be found hanging everywhere that will give off spores. At the moment, it is unclear whether other new features will be introduced alongside the Caves and Cliffs update, but based on what was shown so far, Minecraft players are definitely in for a treat.

Apart from the new caves, the upcoming update will also include a new Minecraft mob called The Warden. For the first time in Minecraft’s history, the Warden is a blind creature that will not be able to see the player. However, despite its blindness, the Warden has super-sensitive hearing, which means that every noise and vibration coming from the player will be heard by this new mob. Of course, the inclusion of the Warden provides a new threat to players given that they would have to be careful during their exploration if they want to avoid the deadly attacks of the Warden.

Moreover, the Caves and Cliffs update will see the introduction of a real-life creature in the game, the axolotl. During the live event, developers revealed that because the axolotl is endangered in real-life, developers hope to raise people’s awareness of its existence by adding it into Minecraft. In the video shown, players can catch axolotls by scooping them up using a bucket, and once tamed, these creatures can accompany players during underwater exploration and even aid them in their adventure by attacking foes.

Another new addition that will be included in the Caves and Cliffs update is copper, which will add an aging element to the game. When using copper in the construction of buildings, they will start to turn green as time passes, which adds another texture of realism in Minecraft. Lastly, the update will also introduce Mountain Goats to the game, and players should be wary when approaching them given that they can easily push players off cliffs.

So when will the Caves and Cliffs update become available in Minecraft? Well, it appears that players will have to wait for quite some time given that the update is slated to release sometime in the summer of 2021. Of course, given that the update will include many new features to the game, it is understandable that it would take Mojang quite some time to develop and test it into the game. At least, players can rest easy that Mojang is still committed to supporting Minecraft for a long time, and it is certain that the Caves and Cliffs update will just be one of the many updates planned for the future.

Minecraft is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
