Rumor: Genshin Impact 1.1 Update Coming Soon, Adds New Region, Characters

Genshin Impact has seen quite a bit of success over the past week. In fact, it was recently reported that the game has had over 17 million downloads on mobile devices alone, which is an impressive milestone in the current landscape of free-to-play gaming. With so many players already enjoying the open-world RPG, a new leak suggests that fervor could grow even larger.

The leak in question, publicized by Inverse, implies that Genshin Impact will be receiving its 1.1 update on Monday, October 12. While the game has a few bugs that could be fixed in a new update, such as voice lines not matching up with the provided subtitles, that isn’t what players would necessarily be excited about. Supposedly, this 1.1 update will feature a wealth of new content as well.

Multiple sources imply that up to eight new Genshin Impact characters are possibly coming with this update. However the two most likely characters that players could see are the Geo spear user Zhongli, and the Cryo sword wielder Ayaka. Both of these characters were playable during Genshin Impact‘s beta test period. Other rumored characters include Ganyu and Xinyan, who are mentioned by name in the voice-over screen, and Childe, who plays a role in the beginning of the Liyue story arc.

The leak also implies that players will have a new region to explore: Inuzuma, an Electro-based area based on real-world Japan. If this rumor comes to fruition, players will be able to access Inuzuma upon reaching Adventure Rank Level 34, and can follow the game’s next story line.

While small things like a private message system and friend online notifications are mentioned, other major changes to Genshin Impact could be coming via this update as well. Players may have more opportunities to obtain Original Resin in this update by visiting Katherine. It’s also implied that difficult eight-player challenges are coming as well.

While all of this information is intriguing for Genshin Impact players, there is always the likelihood that it could be fake. One of the changes outlined in the leak would remove the displayed gacha rates and guarantee a 4- or 5-star character after a certain number of wishes. This system would technically be illegal under China’s laws, as it requires that these rates be displayed. It seems players will just have to wait until October 12 to see if there is any veracity to these rumors.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4.
