Free PS Plus Games for October 2020 Available Now | Game Rant

PS4 owners with an active subscription to PS Plus can log on now to download the two free games available in October. This month, subscribers are getting Need for Speed Payback and Vampyr for free, so players should be sure to go and add those to the library.

As usual, these games will be available to those with PS Plus throughout the duration of the month, and once they are added to the library they will remain playable as long as the player still has PS Plus. Fans seem to have mixed feelings about this month’s line up, however.

Both Need for Speed Payback and Vampyr received mixed reviews at launch, but have since made some decent updates to address major problems. While these might be somewhat niche offerings, they should satisfy those that enjoy racing games or find the mixture of RPG and horror offered by Vampyr intriguing.

Need for Speed Payback is an open world racing game from 2017. It has its fair share of problems, but racing game enthusiasts are sure to find hours of entertainment here. Players will be able to engage with an in depth customization system that lets them make a car just right for them, as well as a good deal of story content. In typical Need for Speed fashion, players will be able to use real cars that are reflective of their real world attributes.

On the other side of the line, Vampyr thrusts fans into a dark world full of a mixture of horror themes and classic action RPG elements. Players take control of Dr. Reid after he turns into a vampire and details his struggle. By nature he doesn’t want to hurt others, but the bloody urges of vampirism make that an extremely difficult task. Reviews of this game are mostly average, with most outlets giving it a 7/10. Even so, Vampyr is full of great content that is worth engaging with, especially since PS Plus subscribers are getting it for free. One major draw of Vampyr is the ability to complete the game without killing anyone in a pacifist run or do the exact opposite.

This month’s PS Plus games stand out for one major reason, though, as this should be the last month of PS Plus that doesn’t include PS5. Alongside the release of the PS5, players with subscriptions will gain access to the PS Plus Collection, amassing popular games from the PS4 onto the PS5 console.

PS Plus subscribers can download Need for Speed Payback and Vampyr now.
