The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta has finally arrived, with players who pre-ordered on PlayStation 4 getting to try the game starting today. While Xbox and PC players will not be able to access the beta until next weekend, PlayStation users have been given a schedule detailing each day of this weekend’s Black Ops Cold War beta.
Right out the gate, the schedule confirms that the leaked Black Ops Cold War map Cartel will be part of the beta. It will be joined by 6v6 maps Miami, Moscow, and Satellite, as well as 12v12 maps Crossroads and Armada. All six maps will be available through the entire weekend, with none being switched out or removed.
As for modes in the Black Ops Cold War beta, today features Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Combined Arms Domination. Today’s level cap also maxes out at 16, with players then unable to grind out additional levels until later. As of this writing, it is unconfirmed if more levels will be added when the Black Ops Cold War beta starts its second weekend that incorporates PC and Xbox players.
Starting Friday, October 9, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see the addition of the new Call of Duty game mode VIP Escort. The new mode gives players only one life, like in Search and Destroy, as they are tasked with moving an NPC to an extraction site. VIP escort should require teamwork and coordination, and it will be intriguing to see what Call of Duty fans think of this new addition to the series.
The final update for the Black Ops Cold War beta’s first weekend will make two changes: Raising the level cap to 25 and adding a new variant of the 12v12 mode Combined Arms. In Combined Arms Assault, a mode which sees players fighting over neutral territory, each team advances closer to to the enemy spawn with the goal of completely pushing them back. This tug-of-war mode sounds like an interesting spin on Combined Arms Domination, and players will be able to test it starting October 10.
Nothing is said in the schedule regarding certain weapons being available on certain days, which should leave players free to access all the best Black Ops Cold War beta guns from day one. With this staggered schedule that adds new content daily, Call of Duty fans should have a busy weekend ahead of them.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
