PS5 Users Can Record Party Chat And Report It To Sony | Game Rant

Sony’s recent release of PlayStation 4 system update 8.00 did not go very smoothly. Unfortunately, PS4 system update 8.00 had a number of technical issues at first, and while those seem to be largely resolved, perhaps the biggest criticism of the new update is something that Sony is implementing on purpose. By using PlayStation party chat, players have to consent to their voices being recorded in case another user decides to report them to Sony for moderation. And it’s now been confirmed that this will carry over to the PlayStation 5. In fact, the ability to record and report PS5 voice chat will be available for the console on day one.

It seems that this feature is actually primarily being implemented with the PS5 in mind, but was made part of the PS4 8.00 update because of the fact that the two consoles can share parties. Some games will have cross-generational support, meaning PS4 and PS5 players will be able to play together, and so if the feature is available on one system, it makes sense for it to be available on both.

Since fans became aware of other users right to record and report them, there has been quite a lot of backlash online. Some of this backlash seems to stem from the belief that Sony itself will be recording party chats, but that’s not the case. This gives other users the ability to record voice chats and report them. Even so, there are some fans who are unhappy about it either way, as they feel like this attempt to combat online toxicity is taking things too far. Others don’t have a problem with it, and point out that players shouldn’t have anything to worry about as long as they don’t engage in toxic behavior.

Then again, some may find ways to abuse the system and potentially get people in trouble unfairly. In any case, those using voice chat functionality on PS5 and PS4 will want to make sure that they aren’t saying anything that is potentially against the Terms of Service, as it could have severe consequences if someone decides to record and report them.

While Sony has caught some flak for PS4 system update 8.00 and the new voice chat recording controversy, it has won back some goodwill with its reveal of the PS5 user interface. It seems as though fans have reacted positively to the PS5 UI so far, with many praising it as a step-up from what was offered with the PlayStation 4.
