PS4 PlayLink Games Will Work on PS5 | Game Rant

The PS5 is less than one month away from its release date. With the console approaching widespread commercial availability, a number of questions have begun to arise in terms of how the PS5 will function and which mechanics will carry over from the PS4. Now it has been confirmed that PS4 PlayLink titles will also be available to use on the PS5.

PlayLink games were first introduced back in 2017 as a way of playing party games with multiple players via the use of mobile devices. Using a companion app that users could download on their phones, PlayLink offered a wide variety of different games that utilized these mechanics. In a similar vein to the Jackbox Party Pack games, these games were inventive and opened the door for various possibilities in terms of potential new games.

Now it has been confirmed by Sony that these various titles will be available on PS5 when the console launches in November. This will give plenty of players the opportunity to experience these multiplayer PS4 games on the next generation of hardware, although, there is quite the number of Playlink games already available on PS4 as well.

For example, Hidden Agenda is one of the more interesting and complex games mechanics-wise. This game was developed by Supermassive Games, the same studio responsible for Until Dawn and the recent Dark Pictures Anthology series. The game allows players to vote on a certain decision to be made in the game by using their smartphones as the controller.

In any case, it’s nice to know that so many different implementations featured on the PS4 will be returning for the PS5. However, the PlayLink games could ultimately just be a part of the overwhelming number of backward-compatible PS4 games that will be available on the PS5 when it launches. Though, this also lends itself to an important question in terms of the future of Sony’s upcoming console.

The PS5 already has a lot of inventive qualities going for it, what with the inclusion of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers integrated into the PS5 controller. Though, one thing that can be said about the PS4 is that it definitely featured a multitude of creative features that no other console before it had really attempted to try and the Playlink games are a perfect example of this. Only time will tell if the PS5 continues to build upon the foundation the PS4 created.
