Mafia: Definitive Edition brought back all the nostalgia of the original, updating the graphics and bringing the game to new gen consoles. Whether gamers bought the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or got Mafia: Definitive Edition on sale on Steam, they are getting the entire original Mafia game along with a new modes, costumes, and content. There are a lot of things to do in the new Free Mode, and some of those things require specific times of day or weather to complete.
Free Ride Mode in Mafia: Definitive Edition allows the player to not only changes clothes and wander the world without any missions, but also to change the time of day and weather. There are a ton of collectibles out in the world, some of which can only be collected in the free roaming mode. In order to change the time of day, the weather, or even change clothes in Mafia, players will have to find their way back to home base: Salieri’s Bar.
In order to get to free roam, players will have to go back to the Title Screen of the game. Select “Free Ride” mode from the menu, which is right below Story mode. Free Ride Mode won’t be accessibly until players beat the first chapter in the main story. After that, players will be able to explore the whole graphically-updated city of Lost Heaven in Mafia: Definitive Edition‘s free mode.
While players are out exploring the city and looking for the secret costumes and hidden vehicle locations in Mafia, they may wish to change back and forth between night and day to help complete certain time-sensitive tasks. For this, players have to return to Salieri’s Bar, which is location in Little Italy. It’s the home base, where players spawn, so it should be fairly easy to find.
In order to change the time of day, players just have to head upstairs in Salieri’s Bar, go to the right, then head into the office on the right. On the walls of the office, there are photographs of the city in different weathers and times of day. Select the weather and time of day combination needed and a short cutscene will play, changing the city as it plays. The gorgeous views of the city during these cutscenes will make players wish that Mafia: Definitive Edition had a photo mode for capturing all of that stunning, 1930’s charm.
Mafia: Definitive Edition is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
