Yakuza: Like a Dragon saves won’t transfer from PS4 to PS5

Yakuza Like a Dragon got a PS5 release date of March 2021 yesterday, but there’s some bad news in store for players that want to start on the PS4 and carry on their game next-gen.

Yakuza developer RGG Studio has announced that Sony’s consoles won’t allow your saves to transfer between generations.

After a bit of back-and-forth over on Twitter, RGG Studio finally confirmed that both digital and physical versions of Yakuza: Like a Dragon are eligible for a free PlayStation 5 upgrade if you buy on PS4 initially.

The catch is that any progress you make on the PS4 version will not follow you over onto the PS5. That’s not ideal when you consider the PS4 version launches on November 10, four whole months ahead of the PS5 version.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this confirmed for Sony consoles, either. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be coming to both generations of Sony machine, but any progress you make on one version of the game will not be reflected in another.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has confirmed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will support Smart Delivery – and that means that no matter where you play the game, you’ll be able to continue where you left off from the same save state.

The game will be something of a departure from the series so far and features turn-based combat, side content, mini-games, and even underground dungeons.

The PS5 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon available for $59.99, “with commensurate pricing in EMEA” regions, according to a press release.
