Star Wars: Squadrons Was Streamed a Ton During Launch Week

Many players around the world seem to be enjoying the latest game inspired by the Star Wars franchise: Star Wars: Squadrons. The game lets players be an ace pilot for either the New Republic or the Empire. In fact, it seems like fans of the franchise have been so captivated by the game’s tone that they’ve taken to watching streamers play it for hours on end.

The EA Star Wars Twitter account put out a new infographic with a multitude of statistics for Star Wars: Squadrons launch. It’s through this graphic that players were surprised to discover that the game had been watched on stream for more than 88,900,000 minutes. To put this number in perspective, that is the equivalent of a little over 169 years of watch time in one week.

How these numbers were accomplished could come from a variety of factors. For one, the game has been a bit of a critical hit, with many Star Wars: Squadrons reviews touting that the game has an enjoyable, yet sometimes repetitive, gameplay loop. Another factor could simply be that various streamers received a copy of the game to play on stream and their audience was supportive by watching. Either way, these numbers are certainly impressive and players likely have decided whether or not the game is for them.

Another interesting statistic from this Star Wars: Squadrons graphic is about VR. Star Wars: Squadrons is compatible with virtual reality headsets on both the PC and PS4, allowing players to immerse themselves in the cockpit of an X-Wing or TIE Fighter. According to the graphic, 15% of Star Wars: Squadrons players have played the game in VR. While this number is meaningless without knowing exactly how well the game has sold, it could be indicative that VR may have found a new “killer app” to sell headsets and grow that part of the industry.

Although no firm numbers have been presented on how well Star Wars: Squadrons has sold overall, the game seems to be selling like hotcakes on the physical market. It was recently reported that Star Wars: Squadrons was number 2 on the UK’s top sales chart for boxed games. The game was beaten only by Toys for Bob’s Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. This difference between the two was marginal, however, with Crash 4 beating Squadrons by a mere 1,000 copies. It seems that EA Motive has crafted a game that does right by the Star Wars name.

Star Wars: Squadrons is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
