Pokemon GO is in the midst of its Halloween event, giving players all kinds of bonuses and new tasks to complete. Some Pokemon GO players also have a special Mega Gengar Timed Research task that will help them add the rare ghost/poison-type Pokemon to their Pokedex. The Mega Gengar Research Tasks in Pokemon GO consist of three steps, and players will need to complete all three steps by November 3 at 6pm PT.
Unfortunately, the Pokemon GO Mega Gengar Research is not available to everyone playing the popular augmented reality mobile game. To unlock the Mega Gengar Research in Pokemon GO, players need to have completed the Mega Buddy Challenge that was live in the game last month. At the time of this writing, Niantic hasn’t announced plans to make the Pokemon GO Mega Gengar Research more widely available.
Here are all the Pokemon GO Mega Gengar Research tasks and rewards.
Transfer 13 Pokemon – 10 Pokeballs
Catch 13 Ghost-type Pokemon – Gastly Encounter
Catch 13 Dark-type Pokemon – Houndour encounter
Rewards: 500 Stardust, 50 Mega Gengar Candy, 5 Gastly Candy
While the Pokemon GO Halloween event is live, there should be no shortage of ghost- and dark-type Pokemon. As long as players make an effort to play each day of the event, they should have no problem blowing through Step 1 of the Mega Gengar Research tasks.
Make 9 Nice Throws in a row – Gastly Encounter
Evolve 4 Pokemon – Haunter Encounter
Catch 94 Pokemon – Costumed Gengar Encounter
Rewards: 1000 Stardust, 50 Mega Gengar Candy, 5 Gastly Candy
Step 2 of the Mega Gengar Research tasks will take players quite a bit of time, as they will have to catch a staggering 94 Pokemon. Luckily, any Pokemon will count toward that total, so players don’t have to worry about just catching ghost- and dark-type Pokemon.
Step 3 will be automatically completed by finishing the previous two steps. Those that get this far into the Mega Gengar Research will get 60 Mega Gengar candy as a reward for their efforts.
While some of the Pokemon GO Mega Gengar Research tasks seem to be excessively time-consuming, the bright side is players will be able to work toward some of their other Special Research tasks while completing them. Also live in Pokemon GO is the Spooky Message Unmasked Research tasks, which consist of 4 steps players will have to complete to unlock the associated rewards. Some of these tasks include catching ghost-and dark-type Pokemon, and so players will be able to make progress toward both Research quests at the same time.
