12 Biggest Game Releases of November 2020 | Game Rant

This past week, CD Projekt Red announced that its highly-anticipated open world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 had been delayed yet again, despite technically finishing development and “going gold.” While fans now have to wait until December to get their hands on one of the year’s most-anticipated games, it’s not like November 2020 is suddenly lacking. On the contrary, there are a dizzying number of new video game releases coming next month, including some of the biggest titles of the year.

November 2020 will kick off the next generation of gaming consoles, with the Xbox Series X launching on November 10 and Sony’s PlayStation 5 hitting store shelves on November 12. As is typical of new console launches, each system is bringing with it a slew of game releases. Many of these titles are cross-generational games, but some are next-gen exclusives. And even the cross-generational titles are coming with some major upgrades, supporting higher resolution and frame rates.

With that in mind, here are the 12 biggest new game releases of November 2020.

Launching alongside the Xbox Series X on November 10 is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the next game in Ubisoft’s long-running open world franchise. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players are able to live out a viking fantasy, taking on the role of male or female Eivor as they raid kingdoms and build their settlement. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is taking its cues from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey by continuing with the RPG-style path the series has been going down, but it will also marry those elements with some aspects of the older games in the series, like with the returning social stealth feature. The Assassin’s Creed series has gotten back on track with the most recent entries, and Valhalla looks as though it will carry that momentum into the next generation of gaming consoles.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on November 10, with the PS5 version launching November 12.

Destiny 2 will soon be changing forever. On November 10, Bungie is launching the ambitious Beyond Light expansion for the game, which will shuffle some of its lesser-used content into the “vault,” while bringing back some content from the original Destiny. The Beyond Light expansion for Destiny 2 will also feature a brand new storyline for fans of the looter-shooter to complete, and will also introduce the new Stasis element, which should shake things up quite a bit.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light will be available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One on November 10, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions launching December 8.

In the past, the Yakuza series has been closely tied to the PlayStation brand, but that’s changed recently. Microsoft has made a big push for Yakuza, adding multiple games in the series to its Xbox Game Pass service, and securing timed-exclusivity for the next-generation version of Yakuza: Like A DragonYakuza: Like A Dragon is a bizarre new take on the Yakuza franchise, retaining the open world gameplay of the other games, but utilizing a turn-based combat system like classic JRPGs. Yakuza: Like A Dragon is certainly one of the strangest games in the Xbox Series X launch lineup, but that could be what helps it stand apart from the pack.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon launches November 10 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with the PS5 version launching March 2.

Speaking of strange games, PS5’s Bugsnax is a rather bizarre first-person game where the goal is to collect various food-based creatures. Bugsnax has a theme song that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Saturday morning TV show, and is clearly leaning into its general weirdness. What makes Bugsnax especially notable isn’t just that it’s a PS5 launch title, though. Bugsnax is part of the free PS Plus games for November 2020, meaning all PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to try the game at no extra charge come launch. This should give Bugsnax a boost and heighten its profile considerably, to say the least.

Bugsnax launches November 12 for PC, PS4, and PS5.

The centerpiece of the PlayStation 5 launch lineup is the Demon’s Souls remake from Bluepoint Games. While it may not feature much in the way of new content, the Demon’s Souls remake has extremely impressive graphics, and is one of the best examples of the PS5’s sheer power. It should greatly appeal to From Software fans, and if Bluepoint’s work on past remasters and remakes are any indication, it should more than do the original game justice. A likely must-have for PS5 early adopters, the Demon’s Souls remake is set to be the biggest PS5 exclusive game come launch day on November 12.

Demon’s Souls will launch on November 12, exclusively for PS5.

One of the first games ever revealed for the PlayStation 5 was Godfall, a so-called looter-slasher that looks to combine the gameplay from loot-based games with melee combat. Godfall leverages the PlayStation 5’s unique capabilities in important ways, using the DualSense controller to make players more fully-immersed in the action, while featuring some cutting-edge graphics. While it will also be available on PC, Godfall is a PS5 console-exclusive, and that distinction may make it one of the more popular games at launch.

Many of the games in the PS5 launch lineup are actually cross-generational titles that are also coming to the PlayStation 4. This includes Sackboy: A Big Adventure, the latest entry in the critically-acclaimed LittleBigPlanet seriesSackboy: A Big Adventure is a departure from previous games in the series, instead focusing on 3D platforming gameplay in a manner not unlike Super Mario 3D WorldSackboy: A Big Adventure has 4-player co-op and looks like it will greatly appeal to fans of the platforming genre when it launches in a couple of weeks time.

Another big cross-generational game for the PS5 launch lineup is Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games. While fans shouldn’t expect an adventure on the scale of Marvel’s Spider-Man from 2018, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will still be an important entry in the series. The game will continue the story of the 2018 Spider-Man game, while featuring a slew of brand new gameplay features, ray-tracing graphics, and more. Those willing to fork over the extra cash for the Ultimate Edition of the game will also be able to get their hands on Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which boasts a new face model for Peter Parker, improved graphics, and some new trophies to unlock.

Every year brings with it a new Call of Duty game, but this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is especially significant. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was a major return to form for the franchise, breaking sales records and kicking off the mega-popular Warzone battle royale. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has the tough task of following up that game, but it looks to do so with a wealth of content including a campaign mode, multiplayer, and the return of Zombies. With both Raven Software and Treyarch at the helm, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War looks to make the franchise’s next-gen debut in style, and it will be exciting to see if they can pull it off.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Fans may still have some time to wait before they will get to play Kingdom Hearts 4, but they can check out Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory in the meantime. A music/rhythm game, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will serve as a recap for the Kingdom Hearts franchise story so far, while also featuring some new story content focused on Kairi.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory launches November 13 for PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

Nintendo likes to release a big holiday game every November, and 2020 is no different. At the end of the month, Nintendo fans can look forward to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a sequel to Hyrule Warriors that also serves as a prequel to Breath of the Wild. With Age of Calamity serving an important role in the Legend of Zelda series timeline and actually being canon to the main games, it’s profile is much higher than the previous game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fans can try the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity demo to tide them over until the game’s launch.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity launches November 20, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Some big changes are coming to Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft with the Shadowlands expansion. Originally due for release earlier this year, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was delayed to November 23, and while fans have had to wait a bit longer than expected, hopefully it lives up to expectations.
