A PS5 Remote Play app has appeared on PS4s, revealing streaming resolution options

A PlayStation 5 Remote Play app has automatically been added to PS4s.

As spotted by VGC, this new software has been downloaded to consoles and appears to allow users to use their PlayStation 5 machines from their PS4.

In order to be able to use this, players need to enable the Remote Play feature on the PS5, before using Wi-Fi or a code to find Sony’s new console. This application doesn’t seem to work with the PlayStation 5 hardware that’s currently out in the wild, but it does show that users will be able to stream gameplay at either 540p, 720p standard or 1080p resolutions.

Earlier in the year, Sony was asking fans in a survey whether it would be interested in a Remote Play app on Nintendo Switch.

The PlayStation 5 launches on either November 12 or 19, depending on where in the world you are. You can check out everything you need to know about Sony’s new machine right here.

Reviews are out for the brand new console, with critics broadly being impressed by the hardware. In our review, we said that the console really feels like a next-generation experience.

In the build-up to launch, we are finding out much more about Sony’s new console. For example, players can’t install PS5 games onto external storage, while the hardware also does not support variable refresh rate. The console does show users exactly how long they have been playing games though, which is a nice feature.

Unlike its rival Xbox Series X/S, the PS5 won’t support 1440p natively.
