Destiny 2 In-Game Live Event Brought Huge Changes | Game Rant

Season of Arrivals in Destiny 2 is in its last hours, ready for the 14-hour downtime for the Beyond Light transition. The end of the season event for the Season of Arrivals was a cinematic end to this expansion.

The Live Event today was accidentally spoiled in an email sent out by Bungie, and then later the Season of Arrivals ending event was confirmed on Twitter by Luke Smith, the game director for Destiny 2.

The Live Event in Destiny 2 “started” around 4 PM PST, and it appeared after a small download patch. Just before the Live Event, beginning around 3:30 PM during the scheduled background maintenance, the sky became foggy, yellow, and the Traveler began to change color. Then the music in the Tower halted at about 3:57PM, making the area feel incredibly creepy before the game cut out. Then the update started, booting everyone out of the game.

After the patch was loaded and players got back into the game, the Traveler was different. It was glowing brightly like the moon, with rainbow lights on its right side. The Traveler seemed like it was healing itself finally, after all this time. Then Zavala requested all Guardians return to the Tower to investigate a disturbance. The “disturbance” took Guardians to the Riverside location from the first Solstice of Heroes.

Ghost says it senses something, like another Ghost, only bigger. “Emanating from the Traveler!” it says, sounding worried. Cayde’s favorite spicy Hot Ramen place was interactable but didn’t seem to do anything. All the citizens of Riverside were staring and pointing up at the sky. The players made their way into the city, without a clear view of where to head next.

The Traveler’s swirling, colorful display continued. Then something lit the sky from the Traveler, a burst of Light, making all the Guardian’s armor glow and giving them a Quickness buff. This happened every few minutes while the Guardians awaited the Event’s finale.

Eris states that “Something is coming, I can feel it. It is drawing power. Could it be enough to drive the darkness away from us? It is reforming, healing its wounds. This will not be the end, it will be an escalation.” Then the world city was covered in a massive wave of Light. The cutscene then showed the Directory, as Darkness swirled around the edges of the map before it covered all of the planets that are going into the Destiny Content Vault. Then the massive Light from the Traveler swirled out too, protecting the Earth.

The light cannot save you. Find us on Europa.” After that cryptic message, the servers went down, clearing the way for the 14-hour reset.

It was an interesting send-off for a Season that had its issues, but was an overall strong end of an era for Destiny 2. The Live Event is the last box on the checklist of things to do before Beyond Light releases. Along with the new season will be a lot of positive-looking changes, new armor, and new areas to explore.

The Live Event also heralded the beginning of the pre-load for Beyond Light, so checking to ensure there is enough space for the massive patch is crucial. And thus, fans of the series say goodbye to another expansion in Destiny 2‘s history, and say hello to Beyond Light, the expansion that is set to change everything Guardians know about the Traveler and the Light.

For now, Guardians are ready for the new expansion, the Season of the Hunt, and that beautiful new Beyond Light title Screen and music.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
