Mr. Blue Eyes is an elusive character in Cyberpunk 2077 that many players may have missed, but he could possibly become a major player when the DLC arrives later this year.
Likely involved in the most recent Corporate War, Mr. Blue Eyes is one of Night City’s most powerful people. He is seemingly pulling the strings of Militech and other powerful people, but could also be harboring the identity of an old Cyberpunk character, Morgan Blackhand.
The first time Mr. Blue Eyes appears in Cyberpunk 2077 is during the Dream On side quest. During this quest, V will learn that a mysterious company has been surveilling Jefferson and Elizabeth Peralez from inside their own apartment as well as brainwashing them remotely. This is seemingly done in an effort to control politics via Jefferson, who is running for mayor of Night City. V will have to make an important decision: to tell Jefferson that he’s being brainwashed, or tell him the truth and possibly risk his life.
When V comes to the decision and meets with Jefferson, on a balcony a short distance away is a man watching in Jefferson’s direction. If V scans him, he’ll register as “Mr. Blue Eyes.” It’s possible that this is a hint that Mr. Blue Eyes is behind this shady operation. If Blue Eyes is in fact tied to Militech, this theory makes even more sense: Militech is one of Night City’s most prominent corporations, currently worth more eddies than Arasaka but still considers the Japanese giant as a competitor, so it’s likely Militech would use politics as an avenue for profitable gain.
However, emails reveal that Jefferson Peralez has turned down offers to work with big corporations and is generally an uncorrupted politician, so it makes sense that an organization would take less moral routes to gain control. Additionally, if players stick around Garry the Prophet, CohhCarnage’s character, he preaches about blue-eyed aliens who control politicians. If players progress with this storyline, Garry will mysteriously disappear, likely abducted by the very people he feared. The person in his place will say he was taken to an alien mothership by blue-eyed people in suits.
If players choose to side with Johnny and Rogue in the final mission and get Cyberpunk‘s Sun ending, V will get to meet Mr. Blue Eyes up close. His name aptly comes from his eyes that glow blue, but players familiar with Cyberpunk lore know what this means: his body is acting as a vessel for someone (or something) else to communicate through.
This can be seen with Hanako’s proxy doll, whose eyes glow orange while speaking as Hanako. However, at Clouds, Skye or Angel’s eyes will glow blue when speaking to V, as the dolls strangely know about V’s situation extensively. At the end of Dream On, Johnny believes the brainwashing is the work of rogue AI, and AI, which has access to the entire Net, could explain why the dolls know so much about V. This means either another person or AI is using Mr. Blue Eyes as a vessel to control Night City.
During the Sun ending, Mr. Blue Eyes hires V for an important mission: a heist at Arasaka’s Crystal Palace, the corporation’s space station. He’s able to send V to space with a hijacked Arasaka space vehicle. As previously noted, Garry preached about men with glowing blue eyes coming from space to control politicians and was taken back to space by these same men. This could be Mr. Blue Eyes and his mysterious group.
The endings also reveal that Militech has won the corporate war and colonized Mars, implying the client sending V on the data heist could be Militech stealing information from its competitor. Another character in the Cyberpunk universe that has strong ties to Militech is Morgan Blackhand, a professional relationship dating back to at least the 2020s.
Players have been wondering where Morgan Blackhand is in Cyberpunk 2077 as he seems to be missing from the game entirely. However, some players found that Mr. Blue Eyes’ hair is labeled as “Morgan Blackhand” in the game files. Similar to how Arasaka controls Adam Smasher to do its dirty work, perhaps Militech is controlling Morgan Blackhand’s body and masquerading as Mr. Blue Eyes for its own shady business.
Given Blackhand’s absence from the main campaign does return or, the loose ends involving Mr. Black Hands and Jefferson have yet to be tied, and the aforementioned info, it would be interesting to see Blackhand finally make a proper appearance.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
