Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War comes with a variety of weapons dedicated to its era. With American and Soviet weapons differing in design, there are some signature weapons that players expect to see during this time period. One Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War pistol has recently been noticed as missing from pivotal scenes throughout the game.
While Call of Duty fans tend to not expect realism from the series, there is still some historical accuracy that comes with creating war games. Players want to use the weapons of each game’s era, and when one goes missing, players may want to know why. In this case, a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fan noticed that Soviet Officers are using a 1911 instead of the signature Soviet pistol, the Makarov.
Reddit user killer402402 recently posted an image asking a direct question to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War developers. This player wants to know why the Makarov did not make it into the game despite being a widely used weapon during the Cold War era. As they investigated further, they noticed the Makrov is modeled within the game, yet many of the enemies are seen using the American-made 1911 handgun. The player compares not having a Makrov to removing the M1 Garand from a World War 2-themed title, leaving the game lacking a core historical element.
Fans immediately assume the lack of the Makarov pistol is due to its appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. With the game’s armories combining in Call of Duty: Warzone, doubling up on weapons could become a dangerous pattern for the developers.
While this may be the core reason, it still digs into a major flaw for the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans expected historical accuracy after the massive build-up from its reveal. The developers put a lot of detail into its Easter egg reveal puzzles, and yet the game itself lacks some core items from the era.
Some players believe that there could have been a deeper issue involved. With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War keeping other era details forefront, it is not likely Treyarch simply forgot about the Makarov. While the reason for its disappearance will be unknown for the moment, fans are beginning to see more cracks in the game’s historical details.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
